The Day Formerly Known As Queensday

In the Netherlands we have a tradition to celebrate the birthday of our monarch. That used to be a Queen for many decades! We have been celebrating Queens-day on the birthday of our queen Juliana (April 30th.) and before that on August 31st. to celebrate the birthday of queen Wilhelmina. Queen Beatrix honored her mother by keeping Queens-day on April 30th. So up until last year we celebrated Queens-day...

Last year our reigning Queen stepped down to hand over the Realm of the Netherlands to her eldest son: Willem-Alexander! A King! As of last year we now celebrate Kings-day on April 27th. But since April 27th is a Sunday this year, we celebrate it on the Saturday before Kings-day.

And since we are moving days around anyway... We celebrated Kings-day on April 25th. already with a visit to the free market in Alkmaar!

I SCORED BIG TIME!

29 records for about €1 each, with lots of goodies:

An album of Planet Patrol, Tyrone Brunson's Smurf, Rick James' Superfreak, a King Bee promo of Trip To India, C + C's Remix of Aretha Franklin's A Deeper Love, a blue clear vinyl of Everything But The Girl's Missing!!!
And then some...

Milkyway

Finally I got to go to Everlast, after more than 25 years!

I first bought an album Ice (Mother Fucking) T put together with new talent: "Rhyme Syndicate Coming Through". On this album was a song called "Syndication", back in 1988... This white dude was rapping with Ice (MF) T! on his new label $yndicate records!!!

After that I bought Everlast's solo single called "Never missing a Beat" and soon after "The Rhythm" and his debut album "Forever Everlasting"...

He came into fame with House of Pain's "Jump Around" and after a few years took a turn to the blues side of rap with "What it's Like"; my favourite Everlast song would be "Stone in my hand"...

All albums after that where lyrically great, musically fine and worth to purchase!

Yesterday's concert in Amsterdam's Melkweg was one of the highlights of my concert-going carrier! Just Everlast on acoustic guitar and an piano player... MAN WHAT A SHOW!

And being the vinyl junkie that I am, I needed to purchase "The Life Acoustic" on vinyl!

Yours truly scored again.

On a mission from GOD!

I always savior my records, but so much more when the artist is deceased.

Early this morning several people close to Frankie Knuckles reported the man died yesterday. Knuckles died in Chicago from complications related to diabetes. He will be missed...

I bought my first Knuckles record back in 1991; this was the world-famous "Whistle Song". This song is still one of my favorites!

Frankie is now turning the tables in the sky. Rest In Peace!

Sentimentality

I always buy vinyl that has a certain attraction to me.

Almost never do I buy a record for its sleeve... ALMOST NEVER!

Yesterday I did buy a record for its cover, a cover that also brings back memories. It is a sleeve that is produced for a certain record store:

Discostar on Damstreet 5-7 in Amsterdam, NL.

Years later they moved to Rozengracht, just a small distance from the old location.
This was one of the stores I used to buy my records at. The other stores were Attallos, Rhythm Import and Concerto.
